Hi,

I am looking for a (up to date) captive portal to use for a hostel, where guests can purchase wifi internet with a credit card, with either time or cap based options. Chillispot and the likes are no longer in production.

The network will use MikroTik routers and Ubiquity wifi AP's

If you are okay with using Hotspotsystem.com then you can use the rCell 500.

You will find a guide to configure it with Hotspotsystem.com at http://3g.co.za/index.php/informati...ell-500-as-a-hotspotsystem-com-captive-portal

Other cloud hotspot services can also be configured on the rCell 500.

If you have Fibre or ADSL internet then configure Ethernet WAN on the router as the first (or only) choice.

The rCell 500 has it's own WiFi. You can connect the other APs to the other Ethernet ports on the router - just make sure they are on the correct VLAN.

Neither has a billing interface where an end user can put in their CC details and get internet access. Both are used as part of the network

Well the original brief didn’t call for an online interface specifically.

I do seem to recall Mikrotik has an interface for that which ran off Mikrotik and somewhere else but don’t remember exactly.

Fair enough, I didn't give more info.

The client wants guests / visitors / tenants to be able to buy their own bandwidth, which can either be time or bandwidth limited. CC payments would automate it, but I would prefer to use a local payment gateway, like SagePay / PayFast / Mygate - i.e. where the end user don't need to register with PayPal or the likes to make the payment.

So, yes, I have looked at the Ubiquity payment gateway but didn't look further when I saw it takes PayPal.

The building owner is effectively paying for all the wireless / routing equipment out of their own pocket so cost should be kept down to an affordable minimum. Datatil would cost R3500pm, making the whole solution for very expensive. I wanted to use ChiliSpot but it's not being maintained anymore.

The main router is a MikroTik and the Wifi equipment will be Ubiquity Unify's

I thought my memory wasn't that bad...

Can't comment whether it will work with a local payment gateway but seeing as it's API driven there should be an option.

You have 900 potential clients and you complain about R3k5 pm????

Also have a look at wifire.co.za

Payfast is crazy expensive (% cut).
