hi all,

I have a bit of a dilemma. Need some thoughts regarding.
I have a temperature logging device to measure various sensors around my store and fridge.
This uses sim data daily to upload datas and send email alerts.
It uses +- 500megs for the YEAR.

I am looking for a data sim service where i can load the data and insert into the device and forget about it until i run out of data.
this device does not not use sms or voice.

i have been using Afrihost for 4 years now. but their policy has changed. If you don't load airtime or make a call or send an sms in 90 days they disconnect the sim regardless of the data being active.

what do you suggest.

Rain.. their SIM cards do not expire and it is 50rand a gig pay as you go.. at their launch their SIM cards did not expire but, they did mention they will monitor customer usage and may change rules around that..

You can also buy a Telkom Simcard, it uses 35cents per mb. You just load the airtime.

If you put airtime on it , they do have expiry dates.
  • R31 – R50: 180 days
  • R51 – R100: 210 days
  • R101 – R250: 290 days
  • R251 – R2000: 365 days

So maybe load R260 to R300 once a year. or possibly R100 every 6months

35cent per meg. R100 gives you 285,71mb.

So if you load R100 every six months. you should be good.

So i tried the rain sim and it only runs on 4g or 5g .
This device uses 3g or gprs :(

looks like i have to go telkom

Time to update to 4g or run on WiFi

3g is being phased out across the world

Look at https://www.cellc.co.za/cellc/get-databundles . You can get once-off prepaid bundles for 7 -365 days, eg 30-days 80Mb, R15. Cell C also seems to have just introduced upfront 12-month options, cheapest R129 for 200Mb/month, divided into 100Mb anytime data +100Mb night data.

Thought you might get a laugh from this
