Looking for dual core/quad core supported mobo

Hi, i'm trying to find a motherboard that supports dual core and quad core CPU's with LGA775 socket. I need to test if my core 2 duo CPU is stuffed, and if it is, be able to replace it with a quad core. I checked rebeltech where i normally buy from but all their 775 boards are dual core only. Is there anywhere else i can check?

Hi

You're mistaking "Supports Core2" for Core2 Duo CPUs. Yours is probably a Core2 Quad. :) Core2 is the range/class of LGA775 dual and quad CPUs.

Which CPU have you got? This would support most/all LGA775 CPUs.

im using the E7400. 2.8ghz core 2 duo. I Still don't know the difference between dual core and core2.

Physically, not much. Both are dual cores, Core2 is the better of them (when comparing socket LGA775 CPUs), has more cache mainly. "Core2" is just the name of the range of Intel CPUs that includes higher end dual cores (Exxxx) and quad cores (Qxxxx). Lower end LGA775 dual cores are called "Pentium Dual Core".

If you/a mobo can run an E7400, it's almost certain you/it can run a Qxxxx, since both are part of the Core2 range of CPUs.
 
Thanks, problem is i can't find anywhere selling quad core 775 CPU's
 
i have this sitting in a box, last time moved when i turned it on it made a long beeep and posted a message about the cpu seating or connectivity, so it could be the cpu or the board, not sure if this is what youre looking for
