Hi guys,

It's Christmas time, so I get to buy a new PC! Has anyone got any (reasonable) suggestions on what I should get? Remember, I'm not a millionaire (yet), so it has to be reasonably priced.

It'll be mainly for gaming and some photo editing and the occasional 3D modeling. But mainly to play World of Warcraft on :)

My LANParty motherboard blew a while back and since then I have been using an ASUS P4P M-something and it's TERRIBLE! WoW keeps on "stuttering" and it's working on my nerves! So it's time for a new machine! :D

I'm not too phased as to whether it's AMD or Intel, just as long as it's good. Dual Core? *shrug* Depends on the cost.

Some feedback and, if possible, some quotes? I have a gig of memory that I could use, if it'll fit into the new motherboard, but I would like another gig.

So, I need:
Motherboard
CPU
Memory (1 Gig if I can use existing, 2 if not)

I have:
Hard drive
Screen
Keyboard and mouse
Sound
etc.

Thanks guys!

O.K

In that vein, i'm also looking to get a new PC soon.

My budget is btwn R10k-15k

I need.

Good MOBO.
would prefer C2D as opposed to AMD
High end ish GFXcard (either ATI or Nivdia not fussed)
2 GB RAM
250+ GB HDD
average sound card (not bothered with having the most amazing in game sounds..)
17inch monitor and up.
DVD burner.
PSU capable
would also need an OS.

Mostly do CS2 work (that Creative Suite, NOT Counter Strike ;) ) and play BF2. So anything that is reasonably future proof (an oxymoron) and is capable of upgrading fairly easily (i.e a good PSU that will take in future, say an 8000 series GFX card..)

k lads, see what you can come up with....

Depends what you mean with reasonably priced but here's two systems I would suggest depending on your reasonably priced:

Core 2 Duo E6600 R3000
Any good 775 mobo (Asus etc) R2200
1GB OCZ DDR2-800 GOLD R1800

Price R7000

or

AM2 3800x2 R1350
1GB OCZ DDR2-800 GOLD R1800
ASUS AM2 NE R1029

Price R4179

But you will need a good GFX if your main priority is gaming on the rig

Luke, a reasonable price for a PC, rule of thumb I think, is about R5k, isn't it?

So, let's say that: R5000

Shizzler, that price excludes the graphics card though, yeh? Also, I suppose you don't get new motherboards that still support AGP?

Might be...but in Shizller's post, both those systems I'd consider as reasonably priced. However what you get for R7000 as opposed to R4179 is a different story, hence my suggestion of budget provision :)

hehehe, fair enough. That excludes the screencard though, which will prolly be another 2.5k. Eish.

I'm contemplating just getting a new motherboard again, something similar to the LANParty one I had...

Then maybe look at something like this, add from your old stuff whatever is compatible plus a decent gfx card and you shouldn't be too far over your R5K target
