Obviously with Amazon and Ebay adhering to our silly customs not shipping electronics here anymore, I was wondering if any of you good folks would know of a refurbished or used (in extremely good condition) Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650?

Looking to upgrade my dad's old machine
 
Sometime on bidorbuy you will get old cpu for a nice price.
 
I'm in the east rand in Gauteng but won't mind paying for shipping

I think it's ridiculous that ebay and amazon pose these restrictions now :( I miss the days of just getting a refurbished or cheap as ***** electronic that I can't get here. Saved my dad about R13000 like that once for a car part.
 
Oh how I miss the QX9650 i had :(
4.0ghz with no issues at all.

After selling it a few years ago to "upgrade", I basically quit PC gaming.
 
The Q9550 can go for R600
Seen some G3258 also for that, and they've given me better performance.
 
Thanks guys, will see. It's all about what the motherboard can handle at the moment though. I initially thought of buying my dad a new PC, but takelot had a special on the samsung evo 250gb ssd and saw I can pop in more DDR2 ram for him for like R360. So instead of buying a new machine for him (or laptop), I'm trying to upgrade him on the cheap-cheap... actually thinking of keeping the SSD for myself, lol.

I have a crap load of DDR2 1Gig's lying around I can let go for really cheap.
Post the MB model nr so we can see what TDP it supports, and what if it suppose 45nm or 65nm or both.

Worth taking out and selling it.
I could actually play Shadow of Mordor with the Q9550 on stock with a R9 270x, games took a long time to truly benefit from the quad cores, just takes longer to "get going".

For example you will lose 10 seconds of the game clock in DOTA2.
Whereas with a G3258 everything is smooth, but the G3258 doesn't have hyperthreading which causes an annoying micro stutter in some games.

That's why i5 3rd mobo isn't a bad idea, since you can do the mobo for 2k.

You can kinda get 4 Gig ram for under R300, if you buy the cheap 2Gig ECC modules they import in bulk new.
Which ironically runs faster than the ones you get on Takealot...

R600 for motherboard

R1100-R1300 for a i5 3rd gen.

You'll also have a pc that'll last longer.
