Looking for Laptop 5k budget - its only a temp as my other laptop was stolen , this will be replaced within a month or two by a pc , still needs to be decent though , cant spend a dime more than 5k as it is temporary, all help is most welcome

Realistically look for an i3 with 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD.
If you're lucky you might find an i5 on special.
You won't get anything fancy graphics wise, probably Intel GMA or HD3000 (equivalent to a 6600GT/8500GT/9400GT).

Can get an i5 with 3/4GB Ram & a 500GB HDD. Makro was selling a Packard Bell with a 3 year warranty.

If it's only temporary why not get a Netbook for about R3.5K and save the extra?

Not worth the money. It doesn't have near the processing power and the screens are way too small.

Personally I wouldn't spend less than R13K on a laptop, but if it's only a temporary solution, why not try Samsung's Solar-Powered Netbook which will set you back under R3.5K? It's a temporary solution and ultra-portable.

I got this for a family member a while back. Really awesome little thingy.
Just pop in another 2GB (R150) module and you're set.

not windows basic that is the issue, that laptop for the price is rubbish. You can get an i3 for less money and more performance.
