Looking for mp3 editor/ripper type thing...

I want to take the music from an avi file and make it into a ringtone, so I need some program to rip the soundtrack from the avi and then something to just make the part that I want into an mp3.

I also have an actual mp3 of the song I want but I only need a small snippet of it, if that makes it any easier.

Is there a free program out there that will do this?

I am not too lazy to google, I just don't know what to search for even...

audacity for snipping mp3's ........ and AliveWMAMP#Recorder for grabbing audio from movies

I'd recommend Audacity too. Easy to use.
