Hi Guys

I need some advice. Im looking for a new router to manage my Network. I have experience with RouterOS so I know I want a MikroTik router.

Ive been looking and found these two:
routerboard-951g-gigabit-24ghz-p-1453 - Routerboard Website &
routerboard-951i-poe-out-24ghz-p-1463 - Routerboard Website

The only difference between these two are 1 x PoE out and R200... Now the Cheaper one has PoE, but the more expensive one does not?

Now are any of you guys using these? Will you recommend any other models?

Any advice will be appreciated.

The only difference between these two units is the gigabit ports and the POE Out on Ether 5. Only the 951i router has POE In (8V - 30V) on Ether 1 and POE out(same voltage as POE In) on Ether 5. Or you can use the supplied power supply via the power connector.

I use the 951i (non Gigabit) with a 3G dongle on Telkom Mobile.

Depending on your needs (gigabit LAN or not) both units are solid and stable Mikrotik routers.

Depends on the size of your network and how much processing power you require in the RB.

Do you need the Wi-Fi or the USB ports?
Otherwise you can just go for the vanilla RB750.

My one is used to dial internet via the ADSL in bridge mode.
Split/block traffic between WUG and inet.
Block external requests into my home network.
Allow VPN connections into my home network.
Run scripts to keep myddns ip updated.
If the same external IP try to access my network 5 times in a row, the IP will be blocked :)

Sorry for the thread hijack, but this topic is somewhat applicable.

What ADSL modems do you guys use for internet connectivity? I want to get a MikroTik router to handle all my Wifi and traffic, and have it dial out through a modem via PPPoE. It's pretty tricky to find just an ADSL modem with ethernet though.

Messugga,

I use a D-Link 2500U modem in bridge modem. Cheap enough to keep one spare in the cupboard!

Running a Mikrotik CRS125-24G-1S-RM with this modem on Ether1.

Sweet thanks! Ill go for the NON Gigabit PoE one. I mostly need the Wireless.

Only my Internet will be connected VIA Ethernet. Everything else will be Wireless.
