Quake Live is freeware and runs HTML5 and OpenGL through your web browser if I'm not mistaken. Tons of fun!

If you want to only play LAN with your buddies (or, god forbid, bots only), then get Q3 or Q4.

If you want to play online, go to www.quakelive.com and follow the instructions. Its no longer a browser based game, but has a standalone client now. Quake Live is Quake 3, with better gfx, anti lag code and convenience.

Yes... but I dot have a usenet account and somehow I tried a torrent and could could get it working.
