Looking for router recommendation

Not sure if you're still looking, but I can definitely recommend Ubiquiti EdgeRouterX (https://scoop.co.za/ubiquiti-edgerouterx-4-port-gigabit-router-er-x.html)

It's a very capable router and inexpensive. EdgeMax routers are currently the most feature-complete routers from Ubiquiti when compared to the Unifi/UDM range. I personally use a EdgeRouter Pro and am very satisfied with it. You can add a EdgeSwitch to expand on the switching should you require that, otherwise you can just use eth0 as WAN and the rest of the Ethernet ports on the router as normal switch ports.

For WiFi, you can use your existing Wireless router as access point, given that it is able to work in AP mode. You can also later on add Unifi access points to expand on the WiFi.

One word of caution though, the configuration that comes with these are not really for the faint-hearted, you would be better off with the consumer products if don't like to tinker with networking ;)

Yes, EdgeRouterX is cheap. I bricked mine playing with it though, I suspect hardware failure.

Not for R2000.00. Once bitten by the Unifi bug, you will want to get a switch, then an AP then a Cloud Key and then some more etc.;)
Nice suggestion though.

LOL, so much truth! However this applies not just to the Ubiquiti stuff, but also home lab/networking!

This is what I ended up with since the EdgeRouter
What's not in the picture are also 9 IP cameras and 3 VoIP phones all on POE, and 2 Unifi AP covering the entire house.

If you want something for R2000 I can recommend ROUTER GIGABIT WIFI AC1900 and Netgear AC3200 - R8000 Nighthawk X6 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router. I know they cost nearly 130 dollars and if we convert them we will get R2000 nearly.
Netgear comes with 600+1300 mbps speed at the rate of 1 GHz dual core processor speed and it is good for streaming, gaming and other needs.
WIFI AC1900 provides 450mbps speed at 2.4 ghz and 1300 mbps speed at 5Ghz. It is a good choice if you are not going to spend much money.

What's the next best Asus router to the above. The supplier is out of stock
Makro has this model for R2999 currently.

Consider 2nd hand from a trusted seller. I sent you a PM.

Users that buy these top-end routers tend to look after them very very well.

They also have a 3 year warranty.

Another good one is the ASUS RT-AC86U. Is more future proof than the 68U as well. If you have a fibre connection faster than 200 I would suggest the 86U as the 68U struggles with faster connections

Sorry I forgot to update the thread but I ended up getting the above. It's been working great since January till now and the management dashboard is amazing.
