Hey Good people

Any software developers interested in a Panel Discussion/Focus Group??:D AND SAMOOSAS???:D:D LOL, this post in short is for proffesionals interested in participating in Open Source Software research. If you are, please grab a cup of coffee and read my proposal to you guys.

I'm currently a BTech student at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. And, as a requirement for Bachelor Degree we're required to write a research article focusing a matter of interest related to Information Technology. CPUT research platform usually produces many papers that attain publications in respected journals, with your help the body of IT knowledge may gain once again.

My intended research project aims at gaining valuable information, based on software professionals’ experience, on reusing open source software (OSS). More specifically, the research aims at using their experience for making “locating OSS, for reuse, an easier task”.

The research project pertaining to this invitation aims at making the search and location of Open Source Software an easier task. It is generally believed that reusing OSS benefits the development community by reduced time to market, reduced product development costs, improved process predictability, increased product quality, achieved large-scale productivity gains, and increased customer satisfaction. However, locating OSS components is a difficult task. Research states that searching and selection of OSS is ideally an individual developer task, and thus inherent in their experience lay the solution for optimizing searching for components.:o

So, what I ideally am looking for is Software Developers, Architects, Engineers and perhaps DB admins who has 3 years+ experience working with Open Source Software (OSS), and have come across some form of searching for OSS componets. I ideally need 10 - 15 participants (the diverse the range the better for research). When I mention components, I could be whole applications (Open Office) lower level architecture software ( Linux and Apache) or just components you imported into you java application (Like a listview etc.)

The panel discussion/focus group is really just a form of group interviews, however, the participants engage in discussion in order to produce new ideas and solutions. So one-on-one interview isn't really the same, and thus the form of information gathering I decided to use is more suited for this research.

The Panel discussion, will be in Cape Town at Cape Peninsula University of Technologys' campus in short. And on the 20 September 2008. If you are interested, do qualify in the criteria given and close to the Cape Town region, you're welcome to give me an email at [email protected], and welcome to leave contact and background information.

Oya, and Samoosa's and Other Snacks will be avaliable at the discussion.:D. Your response will be much appreciated,

Regards,
The Argentine

Way over my head, but hope you find participants ;)

I really hope participants do approach.

I'll be keeping this post "alive" until at least the 5th September. At the moment I've got 3 participants. 1 Software Architect and 2 Developers.:)

Too bad it is not hardware or network related assignment. I would have loved to be of some help :(
