Hey,

I'm no IT expert so I was hoping somebody here could point me in the right direction.

I have a few computers on my home network and was wondering if there is a windows utility that can check the status of the harddrives on these computers and list them in something like a dashboard on the desktop of one of the computers? It basically need to "ping" each drive and report it to the dashboard as a list.

Do you know of such a tool?

Thanks

By status do you just mean if it's available or not or do you need more info than that?

No such tool, but fairly easy to code in .net I would guess

Oh windows based.. meh, but fairy easy to do.. usually do it with unix app (monit) and just monitor ip/port or on the machine itself the service (had a crappy notebook as a server at one stage with memory issues so this got around apps dying)

I found PRTG which is a bit overkill and a bit of a schlep to set up but it works.

Thanks for the suggestion about Network Drive Checker. I will check it out as well.

Would Spiceworks be a bit overkill for your needs?
