Hey guys, I signed up with Afrihost a while ago after jumping from Mweb. I was happy for a while (September) but recently I haven't been very happy. In the last week I've wanted to download some torrents to watch multiple times but I just gave up because I'd only get 6-12KBps on a 4mb line. I know that the problem doesn't have anything to do with the torrents because when I enabled turbo boost mode my downloads were hitting the max speed. I usually average 80 to low 90GBs/pm and December was the first time I went over 100GB (Somewhere between 100-110). Everything else except for torrents runs normally. What ISP would you guys recommend? If I want to download something I want to be able to get as close to my full speed as possible.

I'd wait it out, they're getting more IPC capacity in the next few days IIRC, you're not going to get any better with any other ISP unless you get an unshaped account, which Afrihost do have, so I'd consider upgrading

If you want to change, Telkom Internet apparently doesn't shape P2P much, but be prepared to sacrifice Afrihosts excellent support and put up with the possibility of throttling, not that I've heard of Telkom throttling anyone, but AFAIK its in their T's & C's

I'm on Mweb 2meg premium.
hover around 120 to 140 gig per month.
I've experienced no throttling and my torrents usually run at between 100 and 200 kb/s.
Not sure why you left Mweb, but because I've had no problems, I'd gladly recommend them.

So upgrade to the business account. It's not expensive.

But yes, as someone said they waiting for Telkom to give them more capacity. The network freeze pushed it back.

Contrary to everyone else's incessant bitching and whining I've also only had excellent service from Mweb.

upgrading to their business account and making sure your account isn't set to do day time shaping - I think its in the CP

or use you Turbo charges

TI is a good option but they also shape

Have you tested around midnight? I'm clocking 400Gb per month on Afrihost uncapped 4Mb ADSL, which I don't run during the day.
