Hi there

Does anybody know of any wireless ISP's operating in the Pretoria area?

I'm looking for one myself, but so far the majority was either based in the Cape or in PE.

Thanks in advance

tried 192K one and now on 256K
Forgot to mention I am in Jhb

Cool beans :D

What do they charge you for 256k, as they only have 64k @ R350 pm on their website.

Where can I find a table of their fees? They don't have a comprehensive table of what they're charging.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it very much.

Kind regards

Ouch thats pretty steep

It sounds steep, for an 64k 24x7 connection, but if you're patient you can download 20Gb in a month.

I'm at the stage where I will prefer a cheap-ish 64k always-on uncapped connection and be able to download/postwhore to my heart's content without having to worry about piddly 3Gb caps.

I'm just looking at things before committing myself.

Ooooh... application form says 128k @ R350 per month...

uncapped...

It's better than 64k... think I'm going to contact them and take it... at least it'll be usable. :D

My search for cheap, uncapped Internet is almost at an end... here's hoping that I have a good signal... :)

Thanks for the links provided. Now I can get rid of the 64k isdn connection... :D

Get google earth and see if there is a tower near you and if you have direct line of site to the tower........if you do, ask them to do a free signal test, preferbally during daytime office hour, you will see how is the stability during the worst hour of the day......

That I intend to do.

I don't have LOS to the tower :( - checked with Google Earth tho...

Will ask them to come and do a test anyway.

Good idea to do it during office hours, thanks.

lot's of ppl at ADSL section are complaining about slow or no connectivity.......
No problems here, download from US server full speed, just tested

@ cyberarmy - i love to hear that :D

don't want to go for telkom - their adsl network at present is not reliable.

So what now if I haven't got LOS? I've got two towers close by, Pierneef and Wapadrand, but no direct LOS... :( :(

Will ask them to come and have a speed test tho...

Trees or buildings in between?
It all depends what's in between, if it's really close maybe a antenna like this will work http://globalwebintact.com/uploads/images/HL-24-GRIDLarge.gif but dont take my word for it......
My friend who's using another small WISP uses the above antenna, he used to have a pigtail, but reception is really k@k, with this grid it's much better, now only problem is his WIPS uses telkom.......lot's of downtime and during peak, slow speed....

I've seen that they uses Verizon for their Internet needs, so they shouldn't have a problem.

We used to have Verizon for our diginet line tho, so I know these guys, know their business inside out.

I have requested a speed test, so will see what happens. Maybe the grid antenna will help.

If they doesn't work out, then I'll have a look at MTN then...
