Looking to get into photography

The E3 is really nice.. but I agree about the price, thats just to far out my price range right now. Been comparing the 40D and the E520 on dpreview.com and I just think the E520 stands out more. Even though the 40D has a higher res, the E520 has more options.. and all my existing flashes will work since they are the olympus hotshoe. It also has more metering options and since I will be using this came for Astrophotography, the longer exposure times really make more sense.

LOL every forum I've read there have been discussions and arguements.. I think your right about it being down to what your happy with. If your happy, you enjoy it more and get more out of what your trying to do.

That might be true, But only with my existing lenses. Meaning when I buy more at a later stage, I will have more in the way of options with other lenses as I can get away with my other ones. Plus will be able to use the 2 that the E520 comes with if I go that way.

Now for the catch of course.. Just spoke to my brother-in-law who is a professional photographer and says I should rather go for the 20D for Astro work. But I'm leaning more towards an all purpose general cam that can be used for Normal, Astro, and of course underwater. Why are things never easy?

Good luck - they stopped making the 20Da a while back and by all accounts they're a very much sought out camera.

Come on, maybe your bother in law should stick to weddings or catch a wake up call?

The 20DA not the 20D was a great camera designed for astrophotography that Canon made in 2005, almost an antique in todays terms.

In the last 3 years there have been a few advancements in photography so to point you in that direction is just silly.

LOL he actually does model photography and landscapes (also does some astro work). His reasoning was that he knows I am in into Astrophotography and thought thats what I wanted. He can also get the 20DA at a really decent price. He has been trying for years to convert me from film to digital, I've just never seen the need as I can take just as good film astro as digital (if not better in some cases IMHO). But its getting harder to find decent developers. I've had my last 2 rolls of film messed up by Bieth doing the wrong process and pushing too far from what I have asked.

Of course after reading this thread, I am now steering more towards a DSLR that can be used for more than just Astro.. I should of stuck to the astrophotography thread and not come here to look :D

It would of been cheaper in the long run I am sure :p
 
hehe.. I still think my Olympus OM1 takes better photos than any digital as well... just cant find a decent developer, and I'm to lazy to do it myself.

Sigh, those were the days!

Taking your K1000 and pulling out the stub of 35mm film and inserting a new roll and winding the teeth, then developing your b/w photos in your home studio while listening to Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to heaven hissing on your record player..., and remember the excitement when fire was discovered......:D

Sigh, those were the days!!!

On a more serious note, I doubt there will ever be a camera made again with a life span of 30 yeas plus, they just not made like that any more!
 
I've got an EOS3 now but I still use my K1000. The 50mm F/2 prime lens is the sharpest lens I have.
Here it is:

K1000 forever! LOL

Seems there were a lot of pentax film users amongst us.

I've just noticed my MX has a 50mm f/1.7 on it making it my fastest glass too.
 
I know the OM1 is still used quiet a bit as well.. On the astronomy forums I am part of there are always people looking for them, and if they end up on ebay, they are usually gone in 48 hours. Those old Camera's did the trick.

Speaking of which btw. Does anyone know where to get fujifilm 400 slide film or Kodak 200 gold slide in SA?
 
Seriously thinking about it. All depends on what my Doc says about my back later today. But my Wife seems very happy with it as well.

I would love to see a comparison of that lens (on an adapter) and your nifty fifty. Would be real interesting.

My Pentax 50mm is the f/2, but I have an opportunity to get my hands on a f/1.2 for a not too bad price - I'm seriously thinking about it.
