Hey all,

I'm looking for ways to increase my upload speed. I'm in Cape Town southern suburbs so I don't think we will get VDSL any time soon.
Max speed in my area according to Telkom is 10mb and I assume that comes with a 1mb upload speed.

Some things I've considered:

  • Install second land line for 2 ADSL lines (PRO: Double the download speed, cheap. CON: Total upload will still be maxed at 2mbps with two 10mb lines.)
  • Piggy back on varsity's line (PRO: Super fast. CON: Can't do too much uploading before suspicions are raised.)
  • Get LTE (PRO: Super fast. CON: Data is too expensive.)

Are there any other methods to increase upload speed? Maybe something like a dedicated upload line from telkom or some other provider, but I haven't been able to find anything on this.

Currently I'm probably going to just install another line (is this even possible?).

Any help would be appreciated!

On a serious note, your best and cost effective way would be LTE. But that just depends on your budget ofc. Telkom do not provide anything else out of it's listed services, so a dedicated upload line is not a possibility. For your last point, you can get bonded ADSL which is expensive.

@ajan, that bonded ADSL thing looks interesting.... But it does also look more expensive than getting two separate Telkom lines.

@LaraC, Any more details on the 50/50 LTE? Can't find it on their website, and that is the best deal I've seen so far.

Will Telkom allow me to install two lines (and have ADSL on both)? Will I even be able to get max speeds for both lines?

First off, what do you plan to use the upload bandwidth for, and how much data are you looking to upload monthly?

I would think a WISP would be a good solution to have a look at. They can usually accommodate clients with extra upload speeds.
