Hi there

Currently have a Telkom ADSL DG834GUv5 Router and a D-Link DIR-615. They are connected via cable and both share internet via LAN and WIFI. I've been having lots of problems with the DIR-615 dropping connections (constant cycling of connecting to network) among other problems. I'm looking to replace either just the D-Link or both for under R2000 for good compatibility and a solid ADSL connection.

What products would you guys recommend?

I'm yet to come across my definition of the perfect modem... but the Billion's 3G/DSL modems have impressed me alot. They are VERY configurable (telnet + webconsole+snmp), support fail-over to 3G when DSL goes down, I get good WIFI speeds through two walls, it runs a PPTP VPN server... and some models support multiple fxs ports which can either connect out over SIP (VoIP) or the fxo port (PSTN)

The only problem I have with them is that the device does get slow (both LAN & WAN) connections after a day of having alot of internet connections to in LAN connected client (i.e. connected to a large P2P swarm...) This is most likely a lack of memory to store the NAT'ting states of all the client connections, and nothing that a reboot of the device does not fix.

Do not get the Netgear DGND3700(v1) - that ADSL router locks up LAN ports every day. The DGND3700(v2) does not seem to have that issue.

Before you dump the DLink, upgrade to the latest firmware (ftp://ftp.d-link.co.za) & change the wireless channel.

Think the firmware on the local site for DIR-615 REV E4 is pretty old. I've tried quite a few of them and dd-wrt (I think it made things worse). The extended access point is used for gaming and whatnot so cant have the internet line dropping and causing problems. Just wish there were 2 products that were happy together and just worked :(
