Greetings all
Rather frustrated as I've had endless problems.
I'm around 4.5km from the exchange (I know....it's far). I've got a 4mb line which syncs (at best) at 3mb.
The problem is that there is an intermittent noise/crackle on the line which leads to a loss of sync. When the router eventually restarts, the sync speed is slower. If I open the cover of the phone jack against the wall, remove and reinsert the 2 wires and restart the router, it once again syncs at 3mb.
Is this a Telkom problem, a faulty filter or am I just asking too much from a DSL connection so far from the exchange?
Also, what is the difference between the single micro filter which was supplied with the Netgear router from Telkom (for the phone line) and the filter & splitter unit? What is the correct way to connect a phone and router to a wall jack?
Thanks in advance
Don
