In the last few months I've noticed that every time it rains or the air is very humid, my ADSL loses its synchronization intermittently. I would say that it is connected for 5 minutes and then loses sync (which takes ~1 min to reconnect).
This is in Chelsea/Seaview area in Port Elizabeth and I'm on a 4Mbps line.
Have phoned Telkom a couple times and reported a fault but all that they have done is switch me to another port. This does not help at all....
What should I do?

A friend of mine also has a 4Mb line and when it rains he has the exact same issue, it is something to do with the lines getting wet or something causing interference on the line because of electrical problems at the telephone pole. He has reported it to telkom about 3 months ago, and still reports it every 2nd week, but they still not able to fix it. So I hope they respond to you faster, otherwise you will have to get used to it for now :(

^^ yip - I had the same problem at my previous place - discovered the little box outside the house was getting flooded.

It's not the port that is faulty, rather the copper between the exchange and your jack. Somewhere along the line there is a "dry joint" that is causing the problem. Report it to Telkom, but insist on them logging it as a cable fault.

I've had the same problem, after switching to a netgear router, my line simply downgrades to about 2mb while the weather is bad and then pops right back up to 4mb after, no sync problems nothing.

Phoned them again and they told me that someone else complained about the line and so they sent out some technicians...
After about an hour it was all fixed. Now if only they did that in the first place... :P

That's why you must specify a cable fault, else the call centre runs a diagnostic from their PC, it tests OK and they close your fault ref!!!

I phoned them twice and told them there was a line fault. Explained the whole story to them, about how they've tried with resetting ports etc, but they didn't seem to listen...
