Hi All

I recently changed laptops at work, and another lady took over my old one. I now need to get on to my old computer and have forgotten the password.

The problem is that my account on the old laptop is the administrator, and the new lady has a limited account. These are the only two user accounts.

Any idea how I can reset or find the password for my account?

I tried googling, but came up wiht numerous "dodgy" sites and it all seemed a little confusing...

I usually use UBCD. Google and download.

Edit: I must just mention that it will destroy the current password. It won't recover the password.
There are other ways as well, but I can't recall them now.

You can download linux Boot CD's which run and collect the passwords for you on start up without changing anything to the win OS. I used it about 2 weeks back and worked like a charm on the admin account.

The ISO is about 450mb: "ophcrack-xp-livecd-2.3.1.iso"

Passware Kit Enterprise also works very well. You can even boot from a flashdisk and blank the password.

Try this!

If you don't want to change the password:

1 > Get a program called Ophcrack(very large. 496Mb)
2 >> Download the liveCD (ISO)
3 >> Burn the ISO to a CD using an ISO burner
4 >> The Live CD's come with the free rainbow tables, so you might need to download other tables (cost money)
4 >> Bootup from the CD
5 >> Crack the SAM and System file
