I've only just recieved the Neoconnect Prime package from Neotel and have been watching exactly how my connection performs. I'm in Broadacres in Fourways and I find the connection VERY sporadic. If anyone wonders why there connection is performing badly then you should do the following...

I urge everyone to do the following and report on the statistics found:
1) Go to a command prompt
2) Type "ping -t <address>"
-- Example ping -t www.google.co.za
3) After about 10 minutes or something, press Ctrl + Pause in order to gather the statistics gathered.

This will perform a continuous ping on a particular address which is a very handy network diagnostic tool.

Leave the ping running for quite some time so the statistics are meaningful. Here is what I've found and which I'm quite upset about:

Code:
Ping statistics for 146.231.0.1:
    Packets: Sent = 335, Received = 296, Lost = 39 (11% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 129ms, Maximum = 2028ms, Average = 336ms

Even though this is a wireless medium there should be NO, repeat NO, loss of packets as this severely degrades performance! Higher latency (round trip times) yes due to the wireless medium, but no dropping of packets.

What have you discovered?

I have experienced the same thing in the past, but not since the last Neotel network upgrade. I'm in the Paulshof area.

Ping statistics for 209.85.227.147:
Packets: Sent = 573, Received = 571, Lost = 2 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 886ms, Maximum = 2472ms, Average = 1583ms

Edit: My pings are not usually this bad, but I was downloading at the same time I was running the ping.
