I had a friend copy me his Lord of the Rings Online folder from his PC and put it on DVD for me. I copied this into my Program Files folder, updated to the latest patches and all was hunky dory. I just manually directed Xfire to it and ran it from there.

Now I've downloaded quite a few patches, but when I try to install them I get an error saying that it can't find the game's installation. Now I know this is as a result of me not properly installing it, but patching worked fine in the past.

So my question is - is there any way to get Windows to realise I have it "installed?"

a) just rename your current copied and patched folder to something else

b) use the install discs install it somewhere else

c) then override that installation with the other files from the renamed folder.

That will add your hey-windows-i-have-it-installed
