The first teaser is out of Lotus' 1st ever SUV, to be revealed in full next year./

New Lotus Type 132 SUV previewed in official image

Teaser video gives first glimpse at Norfolk firm's maiden SUV, which will feature active aero shutters

Lotus has given a first look at its maiden SUV, which is codenamed the Type 132 and due to be revealed in full next year.

The Norfolk firm has released the first in a series of official videos that will build up to the launch of the new Aston Martin DBX rival, which will be a key element of its bold growth strategy under the ownership of Chinese car giant Geely.

Titled 'Breathe', the video gives a glimpse of the new active grille shutter that will be used on the Type 132. The shutter features a design with a series of hexagons split into trianglular segments.

Lotus claims the active grille shutter is an "authentic Lotus air management system" that serves a dual purpose, both cooling the car and improving its front aerodynamics.

As first reported by Autocar, the Type 132 has been in development since 2016 and is set to launch with two four-wheel-drive variants, offering between 600bhp and 750bhp. It will be able to accommodate batteries ranging from 92-120kWh in capacity and will offer 800V charging.

Lotus has also put a focus on ensuring the machine can offer performance, claiming it will have a 0-62mph time of less than 3.0sec.

Lotus design hub in Coventry leads SUV and four-door coupe designs

Newly renamed Tech Creative Centre is leading the British brand's transformation beyond sports cars

Lotus’s design studio in Coventry is leading the creation of all of the brand’s electric 'lifestyle cars', including its first ever SUV, to be revealed in spring this year.

Alongside the SUV, codenamed Type 132, the studio will also design a four-door sports coupé (Type 133) and a smaller SUV (Type 134) in the coming years, as part of Lotus’s transformation under Geely ownership from a sports car company to an all-encompassing performance brand.

The Warwickshire site, which opened in 2019 as the Geely Design Studio, has now been renamed the Lotus Tech Creative Centre (LTCC) to reflect its “creative philosophy inspired by progressive start-ups and design agencies,” said a Lotus spokesman.

The facility sits alongside the design team led by Russell Carr at Lotus headquarters in Hethel.

The Norfolk site continues to lead the firm's global sports car programmes, including its first electric sports car (Type 135), which is commonly thought of as a zero-emissions successor to the Elise. Already in development, it's due to be launched by 2026.

The LTCC team is headed up by designer Ben Payne, overseen by Geely design boss Peter Horbury and in close collaboration with Carr.

New Lotus Type 132 SUV to be officially unveiled later this month

A new teaser video gives further glimpses of Chinese-built EV's interior and exterior design features

Lotus will reveal its first ever SUV later this month and has given a further glimpse of some of its features, with the latest of a series of videos building up to the launch.

The Aston Martin DBX rival, codenamed the Lotus Type 132, will be officially unveiled on Monday 28 March.

Lotus previewed some of its key details in the video, which is named Energy and Light, with the themes of "heart, power, energy and soul".

Presented features include a steering wheel with illuminated buttons, a digital dial display, an alloy wheel design, the headlights and a glimpse of the powertrain.

The video also featured several cinematic shots of athletes preparing to race, before the Type 132 was shown to quickly accelerate past the camera into the distance, its rear light bar on display.

Lotus expects the Type 132 to act as a key element of its bold growth strategy under the ownership of Chinese car giant Geely.

Oh boy oh boy, another SUV! How exciting! The antithesis of Chapman's love for lightweight driving dynamics, likely rolling in his grave, yawn... At least they'll help the brand sustain.

New Lotus Type 132 electric SUV: design revealed in patents

Design patents give first look at Chinese-built SUV ahead of an official reveal later this month

Lotus will officially reveal its first ever SUV on 29 March, but new design patents have surfaced on Australia's online intellectual property platform, giving us a first look at the Chinese-built Type 132's exterior.

The new renderings give the best look yet at Lotus's debut electric car, which will go up against the Jaguar I-Pace, Audi E-tron Sportback and Ford Mustang Mach-E, following a series of official teasers released by Hethel.

It will be defined by a dramatic, angular styling treatment which looks to bring it in line with the new Lotus Emira sports car - the crescent-shaped headlights, wraparound rear light bar and a protruding leading edge of the bonnet are the most obvious links. A heavily raked roofline, slim wing mirror cameras, flush-fitting door handles, sculpted side panels and prominent rear spoiler hint at a focus on aerodynamic efficiency – which should maximise its range – and the renders also show the Type 132's active aero panel above the front splitter.

The SUV's active grille-shutter, which features a series of hexagons split into triangular segments, is claimed to be an "authentic Lotus air management system" that serves a dual purpose, both cooling the car and improving its front aerodynamics.

Lotus previewed some of the SUV's key details in an earlier video, which is named Energy and Light, with the themes of "heart, power, energy and soul".

Upcoming Lotus Type 132 SUV leaks through patent database

The Lotus brand is going all-electric, and its first EV will be an SUV that's ready to be unveiled on March 29. We still don't know what it will be called, but for now it's referred to as Type 132 in the IP Australia database, where InsideEVs has spotted it looking pretty in these low-res, grey-and-white images.

We'll take these over nothing, though, especially as this is our first more complete look at the upcoming Lotus SUV. It will be joined in the Lotus portfolio by three more EVs until 2026, by the way.

The Type 132 is a midsize SUV that's expected to go on sale before the end of the year. It will be built by Lotus Technology in a new plant in Wuhan, China, and it marks two "firsts": it's the first Lotus SUV and the first to be made in China.

Lotus Type 132 electric SUV built in China finally shown in patent renders

The Hethel based company is scheduled to reveal their first ever SUV on the 29th of March but new patents on the Lotus Type 132 electric SUV have surfaced which show the proposed exterior in a CAD format.

As part of Geely’s bold growth for Lotus to become a mainstream automaker, the Type 132 electric SUV will be one of two Chinese-built EV’s to be launched in the next 5 years after a £900 million investment was injected into an all-new manufacturing facility in Wuhan. Yes, that infamous Chinese industrial hub.

Lotus Eletre: name confirmed for SUV to be unveiled 29 March

Hethel-based brand confirms name of its first electric car just days before its full reveal

Lotus has announced its new electric SUV, to be unveiled on Tuesday 29 March, will be called Eletre. Posting on Twitter, the brand said: "Lotus Eletre. Coming to life on 29.3.22."

Earler this month, new design patents of the SUV, prevously known as Type 132, surfaced on Australia's online intellectual property platform, giving us a first look at the Chinese-built model's exterior.

The new renderings gave the best look yet at Lotus's debut mainstream electric car, which will go up against the Jaguar I-Pace, Audi E-tron Sportback and Ford Mustang Mach-E. There has also been a series of official teasers released by Hethel.

Eletre: Lotus confirms the name of its new all-electric SUV

Just ahead of the unveiling of Lotus’ Type 132 SUV on the 29th of March, the iconic sportscar manufacturer confirmed the name of its new all-electric SUV, the Eletre, via their social media platforms.

The brand said: “Lotus Eletre. Coming to life on 29.3.22.” via Twitter and posted a YouTube video titled “Lotus Eletre is coming to life.”

Earlier in March, design patents of what was referred to as the Type 132 emerged on Australia’s online intellectual property platform, likely because someone forgot to click a certain tickbox when uploading sensitive information to the system. Nevertheless, the renderings afforded us a better glimpse into what Hethel’s angular and dramatic SUV will look like.

Its very likely that the blank grey renderings disguise a lot of the interesting reflections and flow of the bodywork, but what we can see is a very distinctive design language in line with that of the Emira featuring crescent-shaped headlights, a wraparound rear light bar and a protruding leading edge of the bonnet. Aerodynamic efficiency is suggested by the heavily raked roofline, flush fitting door handles, slim wing mirror cameras and prominent rear spoiler, elements which will most certainly aid in maximising the range of the electric SUV.

The new Lotus all-electric SUV is called 'Eletre'

What was previously known as the Type 132 now has a proper name. Like it?

Set your alarms, folks: Lotus has announced that its new all-electric SUV will be called the Eletre, and we’ll see it for the very first time at 7.30pm UK time on Tuesday 29 March.

Lotus properly confirmed that an electric SUV was in the pipeline back in August last year. At that time it was known as the Type 132, but now it has a proper Lotus-ey name beginning with the letter E. Rather gives the game away about the powertrain too, doesn’t it?

We don’t know too much else about the Eletre just yet, although Lotus has said that size-wise it’ll sit in the e-SUV segment (think Range Rover Sport, BMW X5 or Porsche Cayenne) and that it’ll be built in a new factory in Wuhan. Could do with a good news story or two, that place.

All-new 2023 Lotus Eletre EV to be officially revealed today

Move over Urus - there's a new all-electric hyper SUV coming and it's called the Eletre

- Lotus Cars is ready to unleash its all-new, all-electric hyper sports utility vehicle.
- The SUV will be powered by two electric motors fed by a 100kWh battery pack.
- It can carry four adults in comfort while blasting from 0-100km/h in less than four seconds.

Lamborghini's Urus has ruled the roost for high-performance sports utility vehicles for half a decade. Other carmakers have tried to dethrone the leviathan: BMW with its X5 M and X6 M, Mercedes-AMG with its 63 S models, and Audi with its thundering RS Q8. None, however, have come close, but Lotus is looking to change the pecking order as it lifts the lid on its all-new Eletre.

Eletre - pronounced 'El-etra' means 'Coming to Life' in some Eastern European languages - according to Lotus Cars spokespeople, is the first lifestyle electric vehicle from the sports car firm. The car's name was revealed this week in London as a bespoke yellow cube containing the model. The cube made its way up the River Thames on a specially commissioned boat as Lotus prepares to unleash it in the metal this week.

NEW Lotus Eletre EV SUV first look. 373 mile range 600hp electric Urus rival - The Late Brake Show

NEW Lotus Eletre EV SUV first look. 373 mile range 600hp electric Urus/SQ8 beater. The Lotus Eletre, also known as the T132, but conceived as codename Lambda is the company's first SUV, first 4 door and is all electric with 600+hp and 373 mile range.

It will be solely made in Lotus' huge new factory and dev facility in Wuhan, China (yes, that place) and takes the fight to the likes of Cayenne, Urus, SQ8 and other cars of a genre Jonny quite vocally doesn’t particularly like.
