Just ran 3D mark on my machine and I can't help but get the feeling that my score is lower than it should be given my machine's specs.

I got about 10500 points with a E8400 @ 3.6/4gig RAM/GTX 285 with no OC.

Was expecting better TBH. Or is this about right? If not, why's the score so low?

Interesting. Ran 3DMark 06 again with the default settings (lower rez, AA off etc) and got 16 642. I would have thought that the scoring would take into account higher settings and awarded adequate frame rates on high settings equally (if not more) than high frame rates on low settings.

Still, my CPU score is only 3356. Wonder if that's right?

3dmark does not really like dual core cpu's, you will score far higher on a quadcore.

A quadcore depending on the one will score 4500-6500 is not higher if you got a really good quadcore.

I might be wrong here, but 3D06 has 3 or 4 options, but only the one option's score can be submitted online, the default one.
The other options is only there to see/show how well your GPU can scale up.
So some cards scores migh be close on default, as the tests gets harder, the undepowerd cards will start loosing more ground than high end cards.
CPU scores should stay the same for all the settings.
