Hi guys

My friend and I have a small wlan between our houses.

There are 3 wrt54gl's in WDS mode with me at one end and my friend at the other end.

When i copy files accross the network I get eithe 333KB/Sec or 0KB/Sec

The signal strength between the WDS links is about 30% for each link. We each have a 12dBi yagi with an 8dBi omni in the centre. we both live within 400 metres of the central wrt54gl and have LOS.

Is there something that I need to do to increase the throughput?

Thanks

move from WDS to infrastructure mode

move to a less noisy channel

If you are running DD-wrt, change the transmit power from default 28mW to 65mW, might help abit. Also stay away from channel 6.

remove omni and install 2nd wrt54 with 2nd antenna in the middle and do ptp links

he means AP-client setup, client --------- AP ---------- client

wds is evil!

where you have client connecting to AP not like WDS where it is peer to peer or ADhoc.
Infrastructure requires more radios and antennas but far more bandwidth. which leads me to the question or statement I should say about I need omins because more ppl are connecting which would tell me that you will need more bandwidth

You shouldn't need to do this, with clear LOS and a good setup, standard transmit power should be fine any will create less noise...

I did try and use AP-client but it got very complecated to share files. With WDS it is so simple!

What the performance be that much better if I use AP-client even if there are only 2 or 3 of us?

Thanks

no ftp server... just plan music files.....

instead of WDS must I configure all the client wrt54gl's into client mode or client bridged mode?

Thanks

Client bridged is harder to setup, but is seamless in that you don't even know you are connected via wireless. Check the dd-wrt wiki for its use, I followed it and it worked well.
