hi guys ...
i have some strange issue with my ADSL internet, it started since 3 months ago, the problem is that my internet became unstable (continues disconnect and reconnect) sometimes disconnect after 5 minutes and sometimes works for longer time, lately it gone even worse, the thing that confused me is that sometimes it works a little stable at night !!!
things i tried to solve my problem:
ofc first thing i did is to call my isp > i did that many times and every time the technical told me that the line is ok try to change your cables and such (he means the cable between modem and adsl line), after that i changed every thing cables, connectors, even the modem it self, but the problem still there ...
after fiddling around this problem i found some strange way to force it to work!! >> i found that if i shorten the line for moment 30 seconds to 1 minute (i used some wire to do that) then remove the wire after that ADSL lamp will start to blink faster and faster till it connects (when i do this trick sometimes my adsl works for short time and then disconnect again, and sometimes works for longer time) ...
some notes:
- i tried different ADSL modes (T1.413 is the better modes works for me currently).
- when i use my trick SNR rise up to 35 and then it drop to 0 or -3 or such then disconnect.
- when i use my trick i see some flickering after shorten the line, is that means the line is ok and the problem not related to it?
- the trick force my adsl to work for longer at night (sometimes more than 6-7 hours without disconnect), but at day it deosn't long for even 5 minutes!

can anyone explain me what is this problem?
how and why the adsl works when i use this shorten trick ?!!
low SNR in this situation means low signal or high noise?
also any tips to solve it ?
am really done with this problem, it gave me headache:twisted:
thnx in advance

Hi have you got a phone in there and an adsl filter it sounds like the jack is not making a proper contact, If you dont have a phone get one and plug it in and see by pulling if it makes a noise if so change to the other port, another thing you van do is open the jack and make sure the wires are tight in the push terminal, also if you have any phones plugged in make sure they are going through the phone side of the filter, every phone must have a filter...Hope this helps...Lata

thnx for reply bro, my adsl is connected directly to the line ... i have no phone connected so i don't think i need a filter ! and the wires are connected tight and well i check that many times (early days with this problem i though alot about this mater) , one thing i need to do is to check the line with phone as u mentioned to hear if there noise or not ...

Any idea what causes this problem ?

I've experienced this similar problem and even though telkom kind of fixed it I'm still feeling the effects of it. Where are you based BTW?

The issue is noise related, since it's intermittent I'd say its REIN The technician made me do the same thing, I switched everything off including the main power and ran the modem off a UPS. Still had the issue, the noise wasn't coming from my premises but rather from somewhere along the telephone line between my premises and the exchange, it can be anything from exposed copper, faulty electric fences or issues at the exchange. You absolutely need to log a fault and get a telkom technician to have a look.

i was away for while and when i checked my connection i found the problem still there :/
UPDATE
according to what Lishen23 said, i tried to digging outside to see any thing could be the reason for this problem, so when i reached the cabinet that my connection come from i found a new small shop had been opened near it and there is a Deep Freezer 1 or 1.5 only mater from cabinet !! nothing blocked it just an iron fence !! could it be my nightmare ?
