Car is booked in for service @ Tata for its 45k service this coming Saturday :)
Doesn't help if they are putting the cheap stuff in. You should check and make sure. These new direct injection turbo engines need very high quality synthetic oil if you want them to last. The requirements on the oil has changed quite a lot with these newer engines.

Another issue one tends to see on DI engines is that the intake valves start getting a build up of carbon because there isn't any port injection cleaning the intake tract. That's why on some newer VW DI engines (like the new Bentley W12) have a secondary port injection to aid in cleaning the intake ports. Again, the right oil won't burn and vaporise onto those intake valves to leave those deposits in the first place (or minimize at least).

The TATA Revotron engine is not a DI engine as far as I know. Fuel is still injected via the port and over the valve, so I hope that build up is not a issue. My sis just got her new VW Polo TFSI yesterday and in that car I think it might be a issue.
 
From what I read and understand....normal oil can vaporize and form small little droplets...and this is what actually starts vombusting prematurely and then cause lspi. The new oils designed to prevent it does not cause those little droplets inside the cylinders.

Interesting, I did some reading up, I never realised oil had an impact on LSPI.

Yes, VW started using DI on the MkV Golf/Jetta platform, the same time as Audi due to shared platform's and engines. Newer engines have both DI and MPI partly due to carbon build up and partly due to emissions and fuel consumption. Oil is one factor in this but the one of the others is the effect of EGR which causes carbon build up as well.

I will see what I can find out about the smaller VAG engines, mine for instance has both DI and MPI and is a few years old already.

My wifes old A1 1.4 tsi at 100 000kms, i had to have the entire intake manifold de-carboned. Then the oke told me that in another 25000kms or so, will probably have to replace injectors. VAG Di is very much real.

I have never been a fan of the 1.4 engines, I heard the newer turbo charged only ones are far better though but not sure if they run DI and MPI.

Did you have the ringland issues with your wife’s A1?

Other than the carbon issue, that Audi didnt go into a dealer for any repairs in 6 years. It was quite astonishing.
My 1.4 twincharged gti on the other hand chowed oil (500ml per 1500km, but that was "in spec". It also had piston #3 replaced. all under warranty.

We have a Tiguan 1.4 (110kw) at the moment. Used no oil in 30 000kms. We will just keep it for the 5yr MP, and possibly extend it by another 2. willing to live with the risk as long as its not our risk

Jesus.... I bet replacing the piston was also "normal wear and tear" according to the dealer. Thats why I love my N/A simple tech 1.4i that's never given me a days hassle.
 
TATA Bolt 1.2 Turbo petrol

I did not pay specific attention to the RPM as I got a fright and was quickly switching of climate control and switching it to ECO mode and down shifting....but the Bolt in my opinion is a low revving engine.
Surely lower RPM at the same speed with open throttle would imply lugging and higher loads on the pistons?

yeah, sucks. but in 5 years and 100 000kms. my car was booked in for 2 weeks. I can live with that. But i would never own one of these cars after warranty. My Clio has more solid engines

That is most likely the ring land issue that plagued many 1.4 and 2.0 VAG engines, I challenge any car company in this day and age that says that sort of oil use is normal, not even my 37 year old MkI Golf uses that much oil.

It unfortunately is normal. Emmission laws and consumption laws means that the most effecient engines are made to have the least resistance, aka more relaxed tolerences and less friction. this means that oil is not sealed as much as it used to be. coupled with oil doing the added work of turbo chargers in many new engines.

I have had my Golf for just over 3 years and 47k km's, I have not topped up any oil between services, I still call BS on oil use like that being 'normal'.

Hence my inverted comma's... with "in spec" it is BS. it is true that highly stressed engines and emission laws forcing improved effeciency definately added to the problem. Hell even the E46 M3 engine (3.2litre N/A) chowed oil to a point that they failed. Its something that has to be engineered out. My current 1.6L turbo never needed a topup in 30 000kms and its definately very boosted
