HI I have an ADSL line
And I want to play Games against UK people but I keep on getting kicked cause my ping is higher than 300ms. Now is there a way to get a lower ping? Ive heard people with mweb Dialup get better ping than that..
I Play The Steam Games, ie. Halflife.
Ive tried tunneling with socks proxy but could not get logged in.

Does anybody have a solution for this?

PLease

There is one solution: Get an unshaped account but these are -very- expensive at the moment. Maybe Clipse has a solution?

Basically, if you don't want to fork out more money, there is no way to improve the latency to intl. servers.

Unshapoed

How much difference is UnShaped

I get 350+ pings with shaped for UK Servers
How much do you get with unshaped?

Your ping will still be in the 300ms area with unshaped, so you will probably still get kicked. Unshaped will just prevent the ping from going to 7000ms when everybody else is trying to download.

I doubt if you will have much fun playing FPS games on overseas servers. Unshaped is good for RTS games like Warcraft 3 and multiplayer games like World of Warcraft. For FPS games, you really want a ping below 100ms, which you will only get within South Africa on any connection, no matter how much you are willing to pay.

Naa.. you'd get about 200-220 with an unshaped account eskimo.

Ya could always go with ISDN and get about the same, if not lower.

What if you tunneled through a really good and fast proxy. Won't that lower your latency? There has to be a way

300MS ingame would be practical lowest ping overseas give or take a few ms. 200-220 ms I will have to see to believe, the lowest Ive seen directly from backbone was 200-220ms which would relate to 270-300ms if you connect to this backbone via adsl.

I have shaped ADSL and I want to know if theres anyway to use a socks Proxy when playing WoW, I don't have time in the evenings to play, and my day time latency's make the game unplayable, pls someone help me out.

Razer0 - on which backbone would that be? You were refering to saix unshaped, you wont get 150ms - 220ms on saix unshaped, unless you smoke ALOT of weed ;)

i know this is out of context for the topic, but why would you like to play HL or CSS on UK servers? SAIX has got quite a few servers within SA which do give you the best ping rates you need.

Sadly the only thing missing in SA are local WoW servers or routers for them... :(

Its not just halflife and Css I wanna play, There are games like Joint Operations Typhoon Rising which is the best game I have ever played which Sa only have two servers which is currently offline. Delta Force Extreme also.

Yes also Games Like Wow, Guildwars and my Favorite RPG of alltime Poject Entropia. There has to be away to speed up pings through proxy or something.

Here is a site where you can check a socks proxy and check if it tunnels.
http://proxylabs.netwu.com/proxychecker.html
Its also got the app that you can download to tunnel..

The app works

Ive had no luck in tunneling with Steam though. I have not tried other games yet.
But do let me know if you guys get anything right

The ip I used for testing is 68.164.252.150
Please let me know if it works and on what games you used.

68.164.252.150 is more than 400ms ping time from my diginet line. Are you connecting to an overseas server and then tunnelling from there? Surely that would just make your pings longer.

What are you trying to do? Your data must leave South Africa somehow and the options are basically cable (e.g. SAT3) or satellite. The hop on the SAT3 cable by itself is 170ms+, while satellite will be even longer. So, I cannot see how you are going to get a playable ping for an FPS game from South Africa.

That IP is just for testing.
But If that one is closer to the server you are connecting to , surely that would make your ping seem lower and you won't get kicked.
If anybody know of a local socks proxy we can use, do tell

It still depends on how the server tests the ping. If it is the ping time from your PC to the server, as one would expect, then the fact that you have a proxy in the middle will not make any difference, except maybe make it worse.

If you can avoid getting kicked, it will still not help the fact that you press fire and half a second later when the reply comes back from the server, you are told that you missed because the person you aimed for was already behind you, and by the way, you are dead, because he/she already shot you in that half second. It will drain the joy out of any FPS game.

I do not want to rain on your ideas. It is just that I have played a couple of FPS games on overseas servers when all the SA ones were either completely full or completely empty. I only tried it a couple of times, since with the latency if was simply not fun.

About 2 years ago on a drunken night I played cs on a server based in the uk and managed a sub 200ms ping on ISDN through datapro. Sitting on the uunet backbone atm though and pinging jolt.co.uk at an average of 250 ms.

Yesterday I Downloaded from a server at 52Kbps Avg. This was a UK server. Now why when I ping this server do I get a 500ms upwards ping.
I downloaded URL http://download.eve-online.com/client/EVE_3550.exe
