Lower Telkom tariffs delayed

"In another development, the Department of Communications will in October host a follow-up colloquium on telecommunications pricing.

Minister of Communications Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri is expected to release a preliminary report on the pricing structure and what the government describes as high telecommunications costs, which in turn slows down or deters foreign direct investment.

The preliminary report follows the July colloquium in which a working committee was formed to further probe the pricing issue while making suggestions that would help effect sustainable lower costs. -- I-Net Bridge"

Fixed-line consumers will not enjoy lower telecommunication costs on September 1, as Telkom is yet to reply to the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa's (Icasa) ...

Oh, so if Telkom simply refuses to answer in time, they do not have to do anything?

Hmm.. I got my phone bill today and they are already charging me a higher line rental price from the 1st of September.

Here's what my bill said

xxxxxxxx Your Telephone Line 01 Sep 05 - 20 Sep 05 R52.23 (R2.61/day)
xxxxxxxx Your Telephone Line 21 Aug 05 - 31 Aug 05 R27.10 (R2.46/day)

Surely, this means that the other price adjustments (eg. cheaper call rates) should also be affective 1st September?
