lpi or linux+

note: I haven't done either lpi or linux+. My opinion is based on a quick google and from knowing 2 people who have done lpi.

With LPI you have many different certification levels and specialisations, while linux+ is just one basic exam similar to A+. Therefore the LPI certification allows for growth and it caters for it.

The objectives for LPI level 1 and linux+ certification is available on the net. It all depends whether you want to get serious about linux, or just have a general knowledge about it.

Also LPI seems to be more well known and has been running for a longer time.

+1 for the LPI it has a proven track record and is well known in the industry. Since it allows you to demonstrate skills in specific distos it is worth more than the generic Linux+. Either way I suppose any form of certification is better than none.

AFAIK the GFL had the LPI101 and LPI102 exams for dirt cheap last year, dunno if this is still the case however.

hmmm what is the gfl i just want a place where i can write exams i'll study from home

GFL - Geek Freedom League. All of the LPI study material is available only from www.lpi.org and various other sources. Several IT training colleges and testing centers will allow you to just write the official certification exams for some nominal fee.

This is what I did with the CCNA course we took at university, and had no troubles actually writing the exams.
