LPT 1 kaboom due to lightning

any ideas on this one?

have a medical Dr with situation:

lpt1 = label printing for medicine
lpt2 = dot matrix printer for invoicing
lpt3 = dot matrix printer for reports

lpt1 = onboard
lpt2+3 = pci card.

lightning blessed lpt1

i took a new 2port mecer LPT card - windows installs a lpt4..

but i have NO option of assigning a printer to lpt4 - it just isn't an option.

1-3 is there - but obviously 1 is busted.

if i disabled 1 , the other doesn't all fall "back" "1" port number.

they use a text based program for their medical setup - can also only print to ltp 1 to 3.

i have tried disabling lpt1 in bios - device manager confirms that it is then away - but then lpt4 just sits stuck at lpt4.

the story doesn't want to play musical chairs -1 .

Did you try changing the LPT port number under the port settings for the printer port?

Don't you have to assign the physical address to the port number too somewhere.

IIRC I use NET USE to assign LPT1 requests to a remote PC's LPT port via IP. Can't you use it to assign local LPT1 requests the local LPT4 port? Somthing like:

NET USE [LPT1:] \\ComputerName\printer_share /PERSISTENT:YES

Where computername is your local pc and printer_share is the slip printer.
