I was looking at a cell mag today and saw most of the smart phones are LTE. Cannot remember if apple is also LTE.
My question is, why a LTE cellphone. Routers and dongles, I can understand for fast download, maybe a Tablet it's fine too, but why a LTE cellphone. I sms, phone, whattsapp, gmail , watch some video's, download app's now and then, and it's fast enough for me.

Why not have LTE? Some people tether their phones to their computers so they would want that extra speed.
Not sure if what I'm saying is right but I remember reading that LTE is only for data leaving the network better equipped when handling calls.

LTE is what most of the world now calls 4G.

Voice on LTE (VoLTE) is currently under testing and will be brought in soon.

LTE is far more efficient for data than 3G.

I browse on my phone... At home, I get great LTE but very low 3G signal so for me LTE is fairly important (though I'm back on a phone without it for the time being)

2G can send WhatsApps just fine, why 3G? Seems like maybe you didn't think this question through for very long :)

Well some towers are badly congested on 3G where LTE is not. I am connected to such a tower with MTN. The tower serves a big area including a township so its 3G gets about 1Mbps if you are lucky but the same tower has LTE too so my iphone on that tower with LTE gets speeds of 27Mbps so why would I want to congest the 3G network even more when you can do whatever you want on LTE.

Its faster and has great latency for playing games. Get a contract with MTN and get afrihost data. So you get a decent LTE phone with okay voice rates and discounts on top up AND you have access to LTE. Ideal if you do not have ADSL and want to browse and play games on a computer and all your data and voice on one sim.

VoLTE is already released globally. We just need the devices to be more readily available

Like where (other than South Korea, and the US networks who started roll out in May)?

It's in testing phase at most European networks and is still slated for mid 2015 public launch.

It's also still in testing in the US (Sprint comes to mind specifically).
