Hi all.

I was an early adopter for the LTE uncapped offering. I now have fibre and I am happy. I clipped the telkom SIM down to nano size and put it into my iPad. The iPad recognizes the SIM, there is full signal. I have enabled LTE and tried a variety of APNs. There is no internet connection. I think the SIM might be locked to the modem and it is not possible to use a fixed wireless SIM in an iPad. Is that correct? Is it possible to bypass this.

RAIN LTE apparently is now blocking mobile device useage of their sims, will only work in a router.

If the iPad is jailbreaked there'll no doubt be a work around.

Setup the APN on the tablet. use APN "internet" or "telkominternet"

For Telkom's mobile uncapped offering, the best APN to use is "TelkomMobile", not "internet" or "TelkomInternet" (as it's a TelkomMobile product). It should work in any device, if properly configured... (mine does)

Thanks for the suggestion but TelkomMobile doesn’t work either. Not sure if any others settings should change...

Maybe factory reset the device.. could be theres an issue.. or update firmware on device first

Will try that Telkommobile APN out.. hopefully it improves stability

No luck

Thanks - have tried everything. Including a factory reset. Telkom have beaten me. I think the SIM knows its in an iPad and won't allow data throughput

It's probably locked to Mac address.

Maybe there is somewhere to reset that on Telkom's interface?

No I don't think so. If you ask me the iPad is connecting to 3G which obviously the sim won't connect then because it's locked to LTE.

Oh I didn’t know that. Assumed it would scale like mobile.

Then maybe the iPad doesn’t support the required band?

Possible but Telkom has LTE in 1800MHz and 2300MHz and Vodacom and MTN uses 1800MHz so I don't think that is an issue. I tested my uncapped in a number of devices and modems and as long as the device supports 1 of the above bands it works fine not tower locked or anything.

I find it very strange that some Uncapped LTE subscribers can use 3G failover while others can't. It's really silly. It should obviously be enabled for all of us by default. Glad I have it, but puzzled why some of you don't. Another matter to interrogate Telkom with.. Hate to complain but such inconsistencies are surely unacceptable?

What you have 3G failover? That never worked for me and if LTE went down or I was out of LTE coverage = no service. 3G picks up but it stays disconnected in a router and in a phone it does not show 3G or H/H+ at all just signal bars that is how I know it was on 3G or 2G.

Yes. Confirmed 3G support with ip traffic no problem. R599/mo uncapped package. Maybe it's tower related? ...Who knows
