Is anybody successfully using the above modem via Afrihost/MTN LTE?
My modem works perfectly with Vodacom LTE but refuses to register on the MTN network
unless I switch to 3G only. Was promised 71 hours ago that it would take 24 to 72 hours to
provision for LTE. waiting with bated breath.

Lucky you...
THey say they cant preovisionmy card and that there will be a section in the client zone where i can ask for a LTE sim ... still waiting ... suppose we will wait as long as BBM for Iphone/Android

Hi Dirk
without sounding funny .. I find i get faster speeds than that on 3g .... I wonder if this whole LTE thing is worth the effort...

Hi, not were I live though, much faster on LTE. Main reason I want LTE is for reduced latency and jitter since I have a VOIP phone..

I also have a Huawei E392-u12 and an LTE MTN/Afrihost sim, but I am not getting any LTE signal.
The coverage map shows that I am completely covered. Is this modem compatible?

They should just delivery LTE sim cards unless they need to be provisioned on their system to allow LTE. I read somewhere that prepaid users cannot be part of the LTE family if you an MTN subscriber.

Yes it is, I'm connected to Afrihost/MTN LTE with it as we speak

Can you say that with a straight face while observing his upload speed?

Not sure what you mean with "meh", remember I have no landline so my choice is
3g or LTE, so far LTE has been excellent compared to 3G..

Check my blog link above. Despite LTE having excellent credentials and being a miracle new-age Internet medium, it's not very good for VoIP. Certainly if it's your *only* option then the choice is easy.

Do you know about Telkom's 3G phones? Same costs as copper, line rental, Call More - all of that. This is with a 3G phone that can roam anywhere in the dialling code region. I'm now considering this option myself having used a full-time VoIP from a big name for the past 3 months, especially since using premium VoIP doesn't save money. (For companies it adds amazing real-time management options which I suppose can cut costs as there isn't a need to pay Telkom to make the changes to your PABX)

I am aware of the telkom phone option, at the time we moved Telkom could not/would not port my landline number.
Since I wanted to keep it I ported to Switchtel.
Been happy with service/quality since LTE.
