Hi Guys,


I am still waiting for LTE coverage, which I think I might have. I have come to a conclusion that the only way I'm going to be connected to the internet is by LTE.. My exchange is now congested and my ADSL is useless, never mind it was terrible before. I don't have LOS, and microwave is too expensive.

Can anyone provide me with some LTE speed tests and traceroutes.

I do a lot of gaming and need decent ping.

No need to worry about signal too much. Buddy with LTE is +-1.37km from the tower, with no LOS. A small hill and a double story house in between. Coverage maps predicted speeds capable of up to 25 Mbps. However, when we tested a demo unit at his place, he was only capable of getting 7 Mbps max, probably due to low signal. He has External Antenna on 1m pole on single storey dwelling + extender coax (10m) installation. This gave him -97 db signal. One led signal strength.

So last week he removed the extra cable, by mounting his model on a small shelf just under his ceiling, removed the extension coax and signal improved -92 dBi. So later we added a 2m pole, plus a bit of directional tuning, got things up to -87 dBi, sometimes going to -85.! So he gained 10 dBi. Maybe i can get hold of a demo unit again to see what maximum speed he can get with the improved setup.

BTW, tested it at my house (same tower, 4250m distance), No LOS, not in official coverage, double story house across the road from me and the demo unit ran at 20 Mbps (limited) with one LED signal. Not sure what the exact signal strength was, as I only discover how to read the RSSI last weekend.

BTW, no need to wait until coverage pops up. Check your coverage on their webpage. Just don't despair if you not. If you PM me your Addy, I can do a Elevation profile - which can possibly give you a good enough signal to get a steady one bar signal - even if outside coverage. Obviously, a test at home is the best way, but demo units are not easy to get by. I going to your area to service my car in two weekends time. I'll try and get a unit for that weekend and can swing by on that Saturday.

I've tested TM LTE in two completely different areas and in both TM speeds vary wildly. MTN LTE is very stable in comparison.

In the second area friend has 1 bar TM 3G but 3 bars LTE! Naturally he wants to upgrade to LTE now. He is not in official coverage either.

Hi all,

Just remember Neotel's LTE is to be used in a Fixed environment only. Telco License conditions. Therefore Neotel is not Mobile. Hence the service or product they sell is completely different to TM, MTN. VC & CC. See it similar to ADSL or a fixed line (old diginet:-( ).

Similar regarding the speeds. Neotel LTE does not run at moerse speed. Each service is locked with regard to speed (2Mbps) and the sector on the tower that your are working from. Once installed, you can't move it to another location, like a dongle, unless the other location is also on the same sector. The service is Uncapped, Unshaped. Maybe they will launch different products with different speed/CAP's...Who knows?
 
It is a crying shame about Neotel. I saw very high Speedtests popping up and then I heard about the caps Sad sad sad!! Plus they're on the 800MHz band so would probably provide the best service to a lot of people.

Edit: highest cap is 10Mbps, not 2Mbps.

My bad, was thinking of the 10Mbps package. Hijacking, nope - merely mentioned TM and MTN LTE for the similarities in out of coverage availability. I'd be a Neotel customer if it weren't for the speed caps.
