I recently installed Lubuntu on my AAO110L.

I am very impressed. It runs faster than just about any operating system that I have ever run, and is completely stable.

Boot time must be about 12 seconds.

Chromium (the default web browser) starts almost instantly.

Wireless works perfectly.

And the SSD, which is very slow and locks up quite a bit on UNR, takes almost no strain.

Default apps are:
Chromium
Sylpheed
Abiword
Gnumeric
Osmo
Aqualung
Gnome MPlayer

While the LXDE environment isn't the prettiest, it is an incredibly fast DE.

Yep Lubuntu was pretty good, was my first LXDE DE that I installed from Ubuntu, I absoloutely love LXDE, I have tried a few of the LXDE distro's and can honestly say that I am a big fan of PCLinuxOS LXDE, I find it one of the prettier LXDE DE's: PCLinuxOS LXDE
Maybe give it a bash.

Still want to give Mint LXDE a go, having loads of fun filling up my Grub menu atm teehehe, just need to get another drive so I can add more partitions as I am not a big VMware fan.

I'm using LXDE under Arch Linux and its awesome. Great to hear that Lubuntu is kicking butt. Must say that first I thought LXDE was a bit plain and ugly, got use to it rather fast and sticking to it on my netbook.

Ahh yes Arch Linux LXDE is the other one I wanted to give a bash.
I see according to http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/LXDE the total memory usage is about 45 MB.
So just install the Arch Linux platform then # pacman -S lxde ?

Going to grab the ISO and test the Neotel Lite device on it, thanks for the reminder cbrunsdonza.

Oh, and my Neotel Prime is far more stable under Arch than Ubuntu.

Also follow the Aspire One readme to configure the netbook. Was a pain at first but worth it.

I use my netbook for my UNISA assignments and really happy with it. OpenOffice works just as well as on my desktop. Even do development on my netbook when I'm away.
