Does anyone use one of these?
Particularly the ones that fit to your existing chair?
Which one do you have, and does it help you in preventing back pain?

I was advised to first try to fix my posture, strengthen the core muscles, and then only use extra support as a last resort. Obviously if the chair you are using is not really designed for proper sitting, like plastic chairs for example, then it isn't going to be possible to sit right.

I have used one of those supports that fit onto your chair and found they work fine, but do allow my muscles to be lazy, so I try not to use it anymore.

I think my main issue is that I sit up properly for the first couple of hours each day. 8 hours later I am slouching, and no amount of core strength keeps me upright. I need something that will maintain proper posture whenever I am sitting

EDIT: Also saw this one from Homemark... wonder if it's any good

I recently bought one of Homemark's Lumbar Joy products. It's quite comfortable, but I don't know yet if there are long-term benefits/disadvantages.

What also seems to work quite well is setting the chair's back rest at an angle so you're almost lying down. That's if the chair is adjustable, of course. It does take a while to get used to.

my doctor had a chair with no back rest. he use that. I was amazed how it felt to sit on it, relaxed.

If your core muscles aren't getting tired why the slouching? When I start doing it it is because my muscles are tired. The issue I think is that back supports easily become a crutch.

The one I tried out seemed fine.

The disadvantage really is that it encourages your muscles to be lazy.

That's probably a bad idea long term.

Why? Our backs didn't "develop", for lack of a better word, for sitting, at least not for hours every day. Leaning backwards takes some of the pressure off your lower back and prevents slouching. In my opinion it can't be worse for you than sitting.

The only problem I have with it is that it's entirely too relaxing and makes it difficult to focus on your work. ;)

Oh, and people look at you funny.
