Hope someone can help, Vodacom are clueless. I can't send SMS's from my phone. It has the latest software. The message centre number is blank in the message setting screen and typing a number and hitting save doesn't do anything. Anyone experience something similar? If so how did you fix it.

Ps. Just got it back from Vodacom and still no luck - note saying SMS centre number stored on the sim

Never seen that unfortunately. Mine has a number there, and was automatic. I suggest trying a friends simcard, just incase yours is bust.

i had a similar issue when changing networks / sims a while back. try swapping sims out and then back again.

Cool, thanks. Will try that. Am also thinking it is a faulty sum!

Damn that's annoying. Have you tried resetting the phone?
Have you updated the phone?

Jip, tried all of these options. Looks like I will have to take it back (amazing how SMS is still needed in this day and age). Only schlep is having to re-install all of the software on it!

Don't they need to send you your sms settings once again. That msg that you open and it says save settings or something like that?

Theres an app for that :P

this reminds me of the MAC user who wanted a windows blue screen of death as his screen saver.

Had the same issue with my Nokia Lumia 800. Took it to Vodacom repair centre twice. Everytime it came back the same. They went to Nokia and Nokia suggested they need to replace my phone after the 3rd time.
Vodacom did do a special obf after 3 months and got a new one. exactly same phone model everything.
Excited and switched it on. Guess what..............Same problem.
Then I googled a bit and saw that the message centre number is actually stored on the sim card.
Went to a Vodashop and did a sim swop on my micro sim which was also 3 months old.

Vodacom Techies and Nokia @ Vodaworld couldn't figure this one out.
And Voila!!!!!!!!! All fixed and happy ever since.

Thanks Bad Boy, that seems to have done the trick. Weird because the Vodacom guys tried another sim (well thats what they said anyway).

Cool. Glad I could help. It is so frustrating if something isn't working the way it should. Event the smallest simplest things.

That you were, though the VC tech did test this. Maybe the SMS Message Centre number gets deleted from the sim when placed in other phones. Coz I didn't use a new sim when testing and I did put my old sim in a different phone prior to this issue!
