Nokia had the Counter App which essentially does the same thing. Don't know if you can get it on the WinPhone 8 though
Sent from my Lumia 800 using Board Express

The counter app was available from the beta labs, but i cant find it anymore.
Will have to keep hunting for an app

The Nokia Counters app was removed to improve the already excellent service it provided, so I was informed by Nokia that this app will be re-released by them in the future date & time unknown.
In the meantime use the Free USSD command *111*502# or Short Code SMS 31050 with MM in the subject on a daily/hourly if your network is Vodacom and this will achieve the same as your app.

*101# on Cell C. But this is nothing like having the app.

Anything further from MTN on implementing Data Sense?

Is there a free USSD command for MTN?

Tried phoning MTN technical support, who said they'll phone me back later today with answers as to when Data Sense will be implemented and when Portico will be rolled-out. Not holding my breath for the return call ...

Called MTN, the code for getting your data balance is:
*162* pin code #

Phone 0831238000 if you don't have a pin code.

There is a Nokia app called Nokia Express that has a Counters portion.

Thanks.

Does it only show data used via browsing, or for all data used, including backups to Skydrive, email, etc?

Well, blow me over ... MTN just provided me with feedback.

Nothing too much, just that their manager is following up the implenentation of Data Sence with their IT dept. Oh, also that the Portico update is not dependant on them, but on Nokia rolling it out.

Whats the difference between counters and data sense?

P.S. I downloaded Counters on my phone this past weekend.

I see. Yes, I have a Lumia 610. But, don't WP7.x apps work on WP8 phones too?

Yes, they do automatically. However, you can explicitly stop it working on certain devices. No idea why they would have done that.

I see data sense has started working on a friend's 520 after the last update
