OK, I've another problem I'm grappling with!

I'm trying to set up a POP3 email account (my own domain). I've entered all the relevant details and can send an email, but I cannot download emails.

Every time I try to sync, I get the following error:
--
Not updated.

We're having a problem downloading messages. Make sure you have a connection and your account information is correct, then try again.

Error code: 80004005
---

The same thing happens with a second POP3 mail account I have (different domain and hosting company). From an internet search, it appears to be a common problem with the L920/WP8. I phoned Nokia tech support and they have not been of much help yet. I'll try them and MTN tech support again.

Anyone else have this problem and more importantly, did you find a solution?

If the CORRECT required details were entered in the first instance and you experience sync errors of any type PLEASE NOT ALLOW your network providers technical to imply you have a device problem - Your network provider has a problems to resolve at their end. Been there and can wear that T-Shirt dealing with network provider technical support that fall into the "idiot" category, remember that at times they do employ "idiots" and you might just be unlucky to reach one. Contact MTN and get the correct settings.

Thanks, will try MTN tomorrow and see what they say.

However, I'm losing faith after reading this: http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nok...P8-Lumia-920-Error-Code-80004005/td-p/1649804

Don't know if you have seen this yet:

Microsoft is fully aware of this issue, writing on their support pages:

"The following example shows an issue with the current version of Windows Phone 8:
When the policy parameter Require Encryption on Storage Card is enabled, Windows Phone 8 devices misreport the presence of an SD card, even if the device has no SD card slot. The policy enforcement occurs, provisioning fails, and the device cannot be synchronized.

According to MSDN topic 2.2.2.51 (RequireStorageCardEncryption) about the policy parameter, if the policy parameter is present but the device does not support removable storage, the parameter should be ignored, and the device should be able to synchronize." Link

The positive to take out of this is that Microsoft knows about the issue. As for whether there will be a fix? I am 70% convinced that an update will fix this bug soon. However, it might be months before that happens.

I don't know if you had (have too) a WP7.5 device. If so, did (does) it (your WP7.5 device) have the same problem?

After reading the link in one of the replies here (in fact it was a link in one of your posts). I think the immediate solution to your problem would be to use your Gmail or Outlook account to recieve your work email.

I use Outlook and it gets all my work emails. I just linked my work email to it. It was very simple.

It is also a fact that forum postings need not be the FULL TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH. I have found by way of experience that POP3 settings are at the heart of sync errors,if not the network operators data system but NEVER THE DEVICE. I hope have success with MTN.

How do you spew forth such crap after reading this:

@ p51mustang
Wonder if your POP3 Sync matter was resolved ?

Thanks for following up.

Setting up the Outlook.com email on the phone was not a problem, so my Outlook.com mail now fetches my work POP3 email which I can then view on the phone. Bit of a workaround and not the ideal sollution, but at least now I can receive emails!
