Okay so I've got myself a 2010 Lumina 6L V8 Auto.

In a bout of not so legal driving the front brake discs and pads got buggered up big time.

I've checked over 20 spares shops but nobody carries them.

Agents want 3800 per disc. 2500 for pads. 2000 for labour. All excluding vat. For that price I might as well do an aftermarket brake system.

Any suggestions in the durban area?

Powerbrake will deliver to you. Always get great service from them.

Other option is Star Brake and Clutch in Edenvale, I'm not sure if they deliver though.

Which stereotype category do you fit in? Are you a charo with short gelled hair and designer clothes or what?

What are you compensating for that you need to buy a car like that and then drive it like that?

Wasabee, nothing wrong with short gelled hair and wearing designer clothes... Atleast those charos have a sense of style. You sound like the following stereotype: a shorts, flip flops and don't own a hair brush kind of guy.

Did you leave the handbrake on after hooning?

Yup you asked for advice regarding a vehicle on an IT forum....

1. Mostly of the specialist brake shops are experts in repairing and replacing OEM brakes. They will not have extensive experience in supplying brake kits for a performance application.

I recommend you talk to any of the guys at powerbrake, they are experienced in providing solutions for high performance braking. Backup service is good.

2. You are looking at close to 30K for a BBK road kit(entry level). This is without fitting. Budget a few thousand more for expert fitting and setup.

3. My advice is based on these assumptions:

3.1 You did not specific which model you have nor whether it is the sedan or UTE.
3.2 The car is a heavy car.
3.3 That car is ideally suited to top end run, cornering is not it string point.
3.4 The older models did not have 50:50 weight distribution.
3.5 You want the brakes to handle repeated stops from high speed(over 200kph)

The following advice you can verify with powerbrake.(actually you should verify everything with powerbrake)

3.6 BBK will not stop your car in a shorter distance than the OEM brakes. They will allow the brakes to perform consistently with repeated stops(this is were the OEM system fails)

4. That is a very heavy car. So you will need beefier brakes. I have a BBK on my scoob and it was well worth the money.

5. If you are going to be doing alot of top end stuff, i recommend you step up from the base kit.

6. I recommend you look at their website, they have some technical articles. These will help you identify the type of kit that is suited to your needs.

7. Additional advice.

7.1 I recommend you look at a proper brake cooling solution as well(brake cooling ducting), After installation, brake pad life increased from 18 months to over 28 months

7.2 to reduced brake distance:

7.2.1 fit better tyres
7.2.2 fit a better springs and dampers
7.2.3 uprate fluid
7.2.4 put in braided hoses
7.2.5 install larger brake booster

My car definitely benefited from the fitting of a BBK.

Sense of "style"...
