i am posting this on behalf of my gf, but if anyone has any ideas, and suggestions, please assist.

i have noticed a problem with my corsa the last couple of weeks. Every morning after starting my car and then driving my car's engine light would come on and my car would have this jerking motion but as soon as i accelerate a bit the light goes off and the car drives fine. However this weekend while driving on the highway the light came back on again and
the car started doing the same thing and again when i accelerated again everything was fine.

This morning however was a different story. i started my car and let her idle a bit as I thought that maybe its because I drive off immediately every morning and then the rev counter dropped to below 1 almost to zero, the engine started jerking and the engine light came on. I left it for a bit to see if it will come right on its own and the engine almost cut out.

Would it be a good idea to take my car in to the garage to have it checked out? My car is still 7000km away from the 105 000km service.

btw its a corsa c 1.4 comfort. i was thinking its the fuel filter, but i could not locate it

Sounds like it could be fuel starvation, so a clogged fuel filter might not be too far off the mark.

Here's a question, though:
... my car's engine light would come on... Would it be a good idea to take my car in to the garage to have it checked out?
:wtf:

So she's just going to hang on for the service then? Or wait for the car to leave her stranded next to Diepsloot at 3am? Honestly, some women shouldn't be allowed to drive. Those little pretty lights aren't for freakin' decoration.

You ain't seen anything approaching nasty yet.

It's more utter despondency than nastiness - spend some time working at a dealership & you'll see cars arriving on flat beds all because 'that red light has been on for about a week'. :wtf: Cars can't talk; the closest they can manage is to flash some annoying light in your face. People need to learn to listen to their cars. Making a funny noise? Have it checked. Flashing pretty lights? Have it checked. Pulling to one side? Have it checked.

Some mechanical sympathy can save a lot of $$$ in the long run. ;)

i know all of that i just wanted to know if it needed to be don like in yesterday still or if it can wait a week or if maybe there is a simple solution that the BF can fix himself without having the car taken to the dealership.

Well, if he could actually find the fuel filter... :D OK, I'll stop now. :o

Sounds like your ECU is poked.. Common on Corsa's with that mileage

a couple of toher ppl seem to think that might be thr prob as well. i really hope it doenst need to be remaped....
*holds thumbs for something very minor and inexpensive*

GM will rape you R7+ for a new ECU. Probably way cheaper to have a dicktator fitted.

Sounds like a faulty MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor. Gm's diagnostics machine will tell you whats wrong in a couple of minutes.

Where will i get one of those and who will fit them and what exactly does it do?

Don't panic just yet - let them diagnose the issue first... The ECU (engine control unit) is a little chip that handles the engine's ignition timing/fuel injection/idle speed/etc. - it's basically a little computer.

Hmmm, my gf has the exact same problem, but just a worse case thereof. Some days the car can't even idle. She has to rev it HARD for a while to get the idle to stick. Sometimes the car will even cut out while braking (still do 30+ km/h). The problems all started when GM replaced her ECU (that is what the mechanics refer to as the 'computer box' right?). I suspect that even though they charged for a new one, they either put in a second hand one or tried to repair it or something.

Map sensor!!

Thanks for the advice! It's been bothering us for months now and nobody could seem to work it out. Going to take her car in when I get paid. :D

Very easy. Unplug the plug and pipe. Unscrew it and replace with the new one.
