Tata to begin JLR assembly at Chennai plant this month - Team-BHP​

Tata Motors has confirmed that local assembly of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) models will begin at its Panapakkam plant near Chennai from February 9, 2026. The Range Rover Evoque is likely to be the first vehicle to roll out from this facility.

Tata has invested Rs 90 billion in its new Chennai plant. It is designed to build 250,000 vehicles per year. Initially, the plant will focus on assembling JLR vehicles.

Tata currently assembles JLR vehicles at its Pune plant. It seems CKD operations will continue at the Pune factory for now, as there’s no clarity on whether models assembled in Pune will be shifted to Chennai.

Tata Motors is facing capacity constraints at its existing manufacturing units that have led to longer waiting periods.

“Most of our plants are kind of running out of capacity, and in a couple of years, we need a full plot at Panapakkam,” Shailesh Chandra, MD and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said.

Amazing that they can lose so much money and still be operational. But dropping vehicle prices is unachievable.
 
The Jaguar Land Rover dealership at N1 City, Goodwood closed it's doors on 28 February 2026. It will be interesting to see who will take over that spot. 20260304_163747.jpg20260304_163842.jpg
