The iconic M&M characters - ubiquitous in commercials for the chocolate candies for decades - are getting a makeover that the company claimed Thursday will fit them in a 'more dynamic, progressive world.'

The changes, which will take effect immediately, gives the characters a more modern look to emphasize characters' 'personalities.'

The biggest changes appear to be to the two female M&Ms, the green and brown ones.

Mars, the maker of the candies, has been criticized in the past for making the green M&M too sexy, and either pushing a rivalry or a possible flirtation with the brown M&M.

A viral tweet from 2015 of the two characters holding hands on the beach, posted just two days after the Supreme Court effectively legalized gay marriage, led to rampant speculation on the web. In fact, a search for the two characters in the notorious fan fiction site Archive Of Our Own produces 11 different results.

Actual sexism, yes, but you'll find there was far less of it, especially in ads, than is generally touted.

No sane, moral person would be pro any "ism" used exclusively for the purposes of denigrating a group. What people consider denigrating is the debate however....

Actually going backwards to be honest. Progressive is just another term for oppressive. Just ask Kim Jong-un; he and North Koreans think they are the most progressive, enlightened country on Earth. Self delusion doesn't change the fact.

Edit: In all fairness to Kim though, judging by the rapid moral decay and decline of the Western world as a whole, I sometimes wonder if North Korea got it right by putting the walls up and keeping everyone else out.

A generation grew up with little parental support, the freedom to do whatever they wanted and basically no discipline. The first thing that caused was an inherent inability to handle any kind of negativity, or negative speech whether such was warranted or simply due to the other persons inability to avoid disruptive speech. The second thing it caused was the illusion that one can do and have whatever they want and answer to no-one about anything. Hence the woke culture was born in which it has become taboo to think, act, do or be anything like the generation before them.
