M-Net hit with online voting glitch

A glitch on The Voice SA’s web, mobile, and WeChat voting platforms meant viewers of the show could not vote for who they wanted to win during the show’s finale.

Ridiculous - news24 article has a spokesperson saying "Basically The Voice South Africa broke the internet on Sunday night," said Lani Lombard, M-Net's head of publicity, who said M-Net isn't sure of exactly what went wrong and why.

I'll tell you why: bad planning... I did a project with a TV station in Europe who were getting about 80000 votes per second on an AWS DynamoDB table. No issues - had ELBs scaled up with autoscaling EC2. Not a single complaint...
