Hi, i just wanna kno if adsl is the same as m-web Broadband?
and how i can improve my Broadband speeds...
gaming and downloading...
my average dl speed is 15 Kilobytes per second on Kazaa lite...
hows ur guys dl speeds?

The easiest way to get a decent speed is to move closer to the exchange ure connected to [:o)] Troo tho!
Also, you can call Telkom and ask them to do a caps test on your line, to see if there is any interference or signal degradation between you and the exchange. I'm not sure but I think it's 9 bucks for a caps test. You can e-mail Troy Hector at MWeb, he was in charge of the ADSL roll-out last year ( Think it's [email protected] ). He's quite helpful, even if you send him an e-mail full of swearwords about MWeb's bandwidth. If their network was any slower you'd probly hear it grind... hehehe! Drop them a mail, see what they say... it could also just be that they're just... well, slow..

Thanx...
but is Broadband the same as ADSL ?
and what exactly does a caps test do?
thanks

DSL is commonly referred to as broadband but technically it's anything that offer 2Mbps+ but we all call it braodband anyway, it's definitely broader than a modem (sometimes heheheh!)
As far as i remember the dude said they come to the house with their bag of tricks and whip out metering equipment that tests the integrity of the line. For example my old connection in Constantia (CT) was up to crap, and the max I could connect at was 33.6, which is when i mailed that guy at MWeb in a stupor and he mailed back a list of things to do, and caps test was one of them.
Anyway I never got round to doing it, moved to Blouberg... now i connect at 48/56kbps+ and get 5-6KB/s easy.
He had some other lame excuses as well, but like everyone knows MWeb is overloaded.. may be the biggest but definitely not the best. If you do have a DSL line, i would encourage you to try another ISP, but that would be wrong [:)]
See http://lantic.net/home/connect_adsl.htm they have a DSL account for R199, and some other stuff also. They were rated fastest SA ISP 2003 by .NET magazine.
