Hi all,

On my way to work all 3 lanes were taken up by no less than 300+ Metro cars, Taxi's with a couple army personal in them and blue light brigade vehicles... Anyone know what is going on? Looked serious.

Thanks,
Blaze

Not sure they were going in the direction of Germiston not the CBD...

And there were easy 200 soldiers in the taxi's. Also about 100 Metro cops and normal cops.

During the Great War (WWI) the taxis in Paris transported soldiers to stop the Germans.

Seems we have a mixed message and are using taxis to send soldiers to Germiston.

maybe they all going for the papNwors thing

Was just seriously curious, seeing as they kept me in "traffic" for 20 minutes...

nah, its wacky wednesday at steers - must be trying to jump the gun!

Might have been this?

Johannesburg - Commuters were left without transport as police and the army raided the Bree Street taxi rank in Newtown, Johannesburg on Wednesday.

Heavily armed officers from the SA Police Service, the SA National Defence Force and the Gauteng traffic police blockaded roads in and out of the taxi rank checking for unroadworthy vehicles and unlicensed taxi operators.

"This operation will be conducted as part of public transport month. We are discouraging the use of public transport that endangers people's lives," said department of community safety spokesperson Sizwe Matshikiza.

This follows a directive issued by community safety MEC Khabisi Mosunkutu that the department should clamp down on public transport that endangers the lives of commuters.

"There will be a series of these operations throughout the month, some of which we will not announce."

Vehicles that were not compliant would be impounded, said Matshikiza.

Might be, but would be a serious LOL moment though as they were being transported by really rickity tacxi's...
