hi all, i recently got my shiny new M600 from the Craighall Vodashop, who by the way were awesome in sourcing it for me.

the first thing i tried to setup, since this is a messaging phone is, email. after days of struggling i've finally found the solution. the problem lies in the stupid vlive account settings.

delete the vodacom internet account and setup a new one with this information:
account name : <your preference>
address: internet
proxy server adress : 192.168.1.27
proxy port : 80

the proxy settings is in the more menu.
add it to the internet group as the priority one connection.

on to google mail settings.

BASIC

account name : <your preference>
your name : <your mail adress including the @gmail.com>
email address : <your mail adress including the @gmail.com>
connection type : pop

INBOX
incoming server : pop.gmail.com
username :<your mail adress including the @gmail.com>
password: <your password>

OUTBOX
outgoing server : smtp.gmail.com
use smtp auth : ticked
use inbox login details : ticked

the go more | advanced

INCOMING
secure connection : ssl
incoming mail port :995
secure password authentication : unticked

OUTGOING
secure connection : ssl
outgoing mail port : 465
use mime encoding : ticked.

i've also managed to setup my phone to receive my outlook mail via the outlook web exchange protocol. you need to download exchange activesync from here.

if you have a "push email already installed" error just uninstall the blackberry that comes standard. (took me two days to figure that out :P)

the setup procedure is a bit cumbersome so if you need to do it pm me.

and thats it for my first post :)

Thanks!

Thanks for the valuable info, Varen - I've been pulling my hair out trying to get my m600i online. Also, GPRS causing my calls to drop continuously has been driving me nuts (I spend an average of two hours on the phone each day). This information is not widely available out there on the web - seems there's a good few misconfigurations in Vodacom's OTA info for this phone.

no problem.

it really is an awesome phone once you get the vodacom settings out the way ;)

anyone know how to get rid of the meerkat startup and shutdown stuff ?

Hi there. Does your phone still have the Vodafone software(ie r the menus red and grey)? Mine was completely unbranded after i complained about the many faults with the vlive software. I'd advise u to unbrand ur phone immediately as it unlocks much greater potential from the device. Cheers.

Varen - when I upgraded to the latest firmware via the SE upgrade utility, all branding and irritating meerkats disappeared.
