Hi, Does anyone know of a way to get the ip address of a device from its MAC address. Thanks........

You use RARP (Reverse Address Resolution Protocol) I think.

I dunno, check out the 'arp /?' command in windows.

'arp -a' should show you a list of MACs that your PC has recently used.

what if my pc did not use that MAC address in the past few min. How can I insert the MAC address & obtain its IP address.

a MAC address is a unique address which hardwired into ur Network interface card. If you have NIC, u must have a MAC. ARP and RARP are used for routing and switching. If you didnt manually configure ur ip, it was automatically assigned to you by ur isp

i.e. MAC address is HARDWARE and I.P. address is a SOFTWARE SETTING.

2 COMPLETELY different things.

A LAN card can have ANY IP address assigned to it.
But a LAN card comes with ONLY 1 unchangeable MAC address.
