I am looking for some backup software or way to backup my Mac.

I have a external drive formatted with FAT and another one formatted with NTFS. I have been looking at Deja Vu and SuperDuper.

What

Any other sugestions

Regards

Cant beat SuperDuper IMO.

Ok great.... so you make a clone of your drive and then is it easy to get the data and settings back to before a failure?

I know the last time I had to restore with the disks.... I had to update all the patches again and it was killing my internet cap.

If you drive crash for instance... do you install the base software and then restore from superduper. Or do you have to install all the applications first and only restore your data files?

Can you also use this software to upgrade a HDD... say you want to install a 160GB drive in your MBP?

Cheers and sorry for all the questions.

First time off with superduper I make an exact clone - then the next time I backup it does a smart update, only changing whatever has changed on the computer.

Whenever I want to I can boot off the external drive or I can clone it back to a new hdd for example after a hdd upgrade or even to a new computer.

When you do the updates just select the option to keep the source files.

Aye, after one day in the Amazon I realised that being eaten alive by sand flies didnt really appeal, they're viscous little bastards.

Starting my own business.

I tied SuperDuper and its working great. I just need to get a proper external drive as mine is to small for a full backup. I want to go Firewire 800.

Any suggestions

Excellent choice - what mac do you own?

I have the MBP 15' coreduo. I just got it before they launched the damn core2duo. But hey I am converted. The best bit of kit I have used in a long time.

LandyMan got himself a 2.5" fw800 after some searching but I'd be happy with a larger format drive. Let me know what you find - might get one myself for my laptop. I've got 2x 500gb fw400s on my mini but that only has fw400 so there wasnt any point in getting something faster.

I've got a spare usb2 drive lying aroung and I've been toying with the idea of attaching it to the airport extreme but dunno if its worth the effort.

I have a 250GB USB2 drive but its in NTFS format with all my windows stuff on for work and so on. Now I want to get a drive that I can use for my mac only. Backup's and Itunes, movies and so forth.

It's alive, it's alive! :p

With my MBP's battery swelling more and more every day, I am getting concerned about problems that might arise. Can you use Super Duper to backup selected files to DVD as well? Reason: My photos are sitting on one of my external 500Gb drives (±12Gb photos). I want to back it up to DVDs, but don't want to go through the schlep of manually selecting 4.7Gb chunks. Is there something that will automatically split them out in the correct sizes?

LandyMan, Toast 8 splits it up automatically - you just chuck all the files at it and it tells you how many discs you would need. I haven't actually done it, but it looks simple enough.
